NFL suspends player for one game for dangerous hit

Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots has been suspended for one game by the NFL without pay for his late hit on defenseless Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White during Sunday’s 23-3 victory game.

Gronkowski, who was penalized on the play but not thrown out during the game can appeal the suspension. It is the first NFL suspension for Gronkowski since he started playing in the NFL league. He was a second-round draft choice with the Patriots in 2010.

Gronkowski had apologized to White for the hit, which came after an interception thrown in his direction. White was on the ground after the play, face down, when Gronkowski leaped on top of him and put his elbow/forearm into the back of his head/neck area.

The suspension sets precedence on what needs to happen in order to prevent concussions and serious injuries in football on an amateur and professional level.

Injury prevention is something that needs to be taken very seriously, the NFL made the right decision providing a suspension for such a reckless play.
