Kandace Kalin’s journey into the sports insurance industry was driven by her passion for sports. Possessing a fortified background in sports, Kalin resolved to find a career that would combine her passion and professional aspirations. As a result, she founded O2 Sports Insurance: a company that is renowned for its proficiency in designing comprehensive insurance programs for sports teams, leagues, players’ associations, executives and facilities, as well as promoters, concerts, and other event-specific needs.

Starting O2 Sports Insurance
Kalin notes that starting her own company in a very male-dominated industry presented a variety of challenges, including the self-doubt and skepticism that oftentimes accompanies being a new business owner. She juggled three jobs throughout the duration of launching her business, facing one of her biggest professional hurdles to date: gaining trust and credibility from prospective clients.

“Customers often question the legitimacy of a new company,” Kalin says. “Proving my legitimacy was crucial in those early days.”

She noticed a recurring theme among women in her industry that it was “never the right time” to start a family while building a lucrative career. Kalin always aspired to possess both, and although she chose not to disclose her pregnancies to the public, she wanted to demonstrate that success is attainable despite societal expectations.

“My ultimate goal has always been to prioritize my role as a mother to my children,” Kalin states, and adds, “While I’m passionate about sports and achieving excellence, I’ve strived to balance my intensity for my business with being a compassionate mother to my family.”

Kalin adds that she balances work and family by assuring their ability to accompany her on business trips so they share those experiences and she maintains a constant presence in their lives.
